Board of Directors
TMA’s Board of Directors represents an array of small business-owners established on Tweedy Mile. As long-standing members of the community, and of the board, this body banks with a substantial institutional knowledge as their presence in the district ranges from 10 to 40 years.
Dedicating many hours of volunteer work the Board of Directors have directed its Executive Director to manage TMA as a fully-transparent and accessible organization. Through their direct involvement in the Design, Promotions, and Economic Restructuring committees, each board member commits to reach program goals which are delineated in detail on the annual, and on quarterly service agreement reports. Growing from their role as overseers of quarterly program outcomes, TMA’s Board of Directors embrace their challenge to work in a vision for the future; by developing a comprehensive strategic plan for 2011-20013 to achieve the Association’s financial sustainability.
In his capacity of TMA’s Executive Director he is charged to implement the Main Street Approach; a community revitalization program. His overall duties are: developing community partnerships in the Tweedy Blvd. vicinity; recommend program budgeting, evaluation; and design guidelines; develop marketing plans to promote sales in this commercial district; produce financial reports, train and coordinate the board of directors in governance processes; work with the South Gate municipality in developing business-friendly zoning ordinances; and supervision of volunteers members of the organization’s working committees.
With twenty years of combined experience in the areas of social services advocacy, environmental education, performing arts promotion, and project management in art-related exhibitions, TMA’s Executive Director is a National Urban Fellows graduate. This fellowship is a competitive program in which graduates earn a Master in Public Administration from the School of Public Affairs at Baruch College. This leadership development program prepares mid-career professionals for leadership and management positions in government and nonprofit sectors.
